Catfish

We have a special present for you, our loyal Austin Tech Happy Hour and AustinStartup friends. We've been working with Rogue Pictures to bring you a free and exclusive pre-screening of the upcoming movie Catfish.

Seating is on a first come, first served basis.

This movie was the darling of Sundance, and will be released on a limited basis starting on 9/17. This is your chance to see it and experience what the buzz is about before everyone else.

The plot seems simple: Boy meets girl on Facebook, boy and girl hit it off, boy decides on a roadtrip to meet her. What is interesting about that? This was all happening to the brother of a filmmaker, who decided to film the whole thing. All we know is that this story takes a shocking twist.

In late 2007, filmmakers Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost sensed a story unfolding as they began to film the life of Ariel’s brother, Nev. They had no idea that their project would lead to the most exhilarating and unsettling months of their lives. A reality thriller that is a shocking product of our times, Catfish is a riveting story of love, deception and grace within a labyrinth of online intrigue.

Catfish confirms your worst suspicions about virtual relationships, but it also reveals with surprising sensitivity some of the psychology behind those deceptions. Catfish goes far deeper than simply exploring My Kid Could Paint That-esque questions about art prodigies, with the narrative eventually shaping up more like a repeat occurrence of The Night Listener for the Internet age. Intriguing.”
